While most So-Cal natives were busy getting sloshed at their local Irish pub on March 17th, I decided to skip the festivities this year and opted for a more peaceful St. Patrick’s Day. So I headed to Santa Monica for a one-day Vipassana Meditation course. If you remember, I did a 10-day course in Texas last year. So, how was my St. Patty’s day meditation, you ask! Let’s just say I-rish I would’ve done a one-day course sooner. (See what I did there!) As I sat in silence along with 10 other students, I couldn’t help but notice that I stuck out like a sore thumb. While everyone else was wearing neutral tones (brown, khaki, beige), I was wrapped in my bright pink extra plush snuggie, which is incredibly warm, but also sheds like crazy. I caught a couple of meditators smiling at me; I assume they were smiles of encouragement (and not because I looked completely ridiculous).
Overall a day of beachside meditation was just what the doctor ordered. As I walked out of the meditation center plucking pink fuzz out of my hair, I felt completely relaxed and rejuvenated. This was a St. Patty’s Day well spent!
