This weekend was The Mercè Festival in Barcelona (in honor of Mare de Deu de la Mercè, the Patron Saint of Barcelona) so Thursday-Sunday there were free activities & shows throughout the city. On Thursday I went to a local comedy show. Apparently the comedian was really funny, but I understood none of it.
On Sat I took the train into the city to see a band called Big City Rock. Before the show I ran into the fool in the picture above. My only regret is that I didn’t get video footage because the look on everyone’s face was priceless. Kids were pointing & laughing, people were snapping photos and an old grandma looked at me & said “I can’t believe my eyes!” The best part is that this man either didn’t realize or didn’t care that everyone was staring at him. He walked with such pride you would think we were in the wrong for having clothes on. When I got home I told Marta about him and she said that every now and then naked people wander off the nude beaches into the city. She said that there’s a serious political debate about whether it should be legal to walk the streets naked. Many liberal politicians argue that nudity is good for the environment!
After following the naked man around for a few minutes (what can I say, I was intrigued) I stumbled upon a parade of devils, stuffed my face with blue cheese pizza and discover a refreshing drink called Clara (Estrella Damm beer mixed with lemon Fanta).
On Sunday I finally went to the beach!! One of the reasons I chose to come to Barcelona & not Madrid. I went to Montgat Beach, which is about a 25-min drive from where I’m staying. The water was incredibly clean & blue, but I didn’t get in because it was cold. Overall a very nice weekend!
