Let’s start at the very beginning. I left Los Angeles on Friday, September 4th. I flew into New York, then I was supposed to leave New York and arrive in Barcelona on Saturday morning…there was just one catch: I flew standby. For those of you who aren’t familiar with how standby works, let me explain: You buy a ticket for dirt cheap, but the only way you get on the plane is if there are empty seats. So if the flight is completely booked, you have to pray that one of the passengers oversleeps or gets caught in traffic and misses their flight. Sounds awful, huh!? Trust me, it is.
Unfortunately, no one missed their flight and my ticket was rolled over to the next flight, which was also over-booked. After 19 sleepless hours at JFK airport, I found a cozy spot for a nap and dozed off for about an hour, but was rudely awaken by my own snores (don’t act like it’s never happened to you). A few hours and a few phone calls later I discovered that I had a cousin named Carolyn who lived in New York. I’d never know of her existence until that day, but she was kind enough to pick me up and take me to her house so I could shower, eat & sleep like a human being should. She took me to church on Sunday morning and gave me a few parting gifts before she took me back to the airport. She gave me a bible, a daily prayer book and….Holy Oil!!! I wonder if God gets mad when people use Holy Oil for “massage” purposes or if he gives his blessing??? But I digress… I finally made it on the plane Sunday evening & arrived in beautiful Barcelona Monday morning!
